At our shop, we use eco-friendly PLA (Polylactic Acid) to bring dragons, dinos, creatures, and curiosities to life. It’s a plant-based plastic made from renewable resources like corn starch and sugarcane, making it a more sustainable choice for 3D printing.
Whether you’ve bought a book nook, fidget toy, or fantasy décor piece, a little care goes a long way in keeping your PLA prints looking their best. Here's how to look after them:
☀️ Avoid Extreme Heat
PLA softens at around 60°C (140°F). That means it should never be left in direct sunlight, near radiators, or inside a hot car, especially during summer. High temperatures can warp or deform the shape of your item.
Tip: Keep your prints in cool, shaded areas—bookshelves, desks, or display cabinets are perfect.
💦 Keep It Dry
PLA is moisture-resistant, but it's not waterproof. Avoid exposing your items to high humidity, water, or damp environments for long periods. Bathrooms, for example, may not be ideal display locations.
Tip: If your print gets dusty or needs cleaning, use a dry microfiber cloth or lightly dampen a soft cloth (no soaps or harsh chemicals).
🧽 Cleaning & Dusting
Due to their fine details, some pieces—like book nooks or articulated toys—may collect dust over time. A soft brush (like a clean makeup brush or paintbrush) works wonders for gently cleaning crevices.
What to avoid:
- Abrasive cloths
- Strong cleaners
- Soaking in water
🛠 Minor Imperfections Are Natural
Each piece is made to order using 3D printing, which means you may notice tiny layer lines or seams—these are completely normal and part of the handmade charm of PLA printing. They don’t affect function or durability.
🧒 Not a Toy for Small Children
Many of our items—like articulated animals and detailed bookends—contain small parts or moving sections, making them unsuitable for children under 3. Always supervise young users to avoid accidental damage or injury.
♻️ Eco-Friendly and Long-Lasting
While PLA is biodegradable under industrial composting conditions, it’s designed to last for years with proper care. If you ever decide to retire a piece, look into local recycling programs that accept PLA or donate it to someone who’ll love it just as much.
Final Thoughts
Your 3D printed item was made with care—and a bit of magic. With just a few precautions, it’ll stay bold, bright, and display-ready for years to come.
